UNINVITED Watch Party Recap &

Invasive Species Resources

At the event:

We learned about invasives

UNINVITED: The Spread of Invasive Species introduced the concept of invasive species and highlighted some of the species threatening New York's environment and economy. The film also showed some innovative ways that New York State is combatting these threats.

We discussed the film and local issues

After watching the film, experts Matt Gallo of Finger Lakes PRISM and Brian Eshenaur of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County lead the discussion and answered questions about the film, their work, and what individuals can do about invasives.

We mingled, made connections, and got inspired

We also invited local garden centers to share their native offerings and invasive removal services. Thank you to Broccolo Garden CenterWayside Garden CenterWhite Oak NurseryBirdsong Landscape Design for attending - and also to What's GoodFruition Seeds, and High Mowing Organic Seeds for being part of the conversation and donating native seeds and gardening goodies to our raffle!

We also welcomed our friends, elected officials from both the Village of Fairport and the Town of Perinton, and area wineries such as Young Sommer Winery for two hours of learning, planning, and making connections.

Healthy Yards Monroe County

Healthy Yards Monroe County

A county-wide program encouraging residents to participate in an effort – in their own yards – that will help restore our community’s biodiversity, ecological health, and beauty. Achieving “habitat connectivity” enables pollinator insects and other wildlife to move around among healthy environments in their search for food and water, mates, shelter, and places to nest.
